May the Lord grant you his peace! We too from this garden invoke his peace!
In this month of June we invite you to join us for this intention of prayer. Or rather, we should say with more realism that our little prayer and offering is joined to the prayer and offering that Jesus raised to the Father from this holy place. Different scenarios of wars and natural disasters bring with them devastating effects both inside and outside of us, such as distrust, bewilderment, great suffering. They could frighten us and discourage us in our little offering and struggle, but we must have hope: the Lord fought and won the evil one! The Lord himself affirms this to his disciples and he also repeats it to us today: "I have told you this so that you may have peace in me. In the world you have tribulations, but have courage: I have overcome the world" (Jn 16:33). It is in him that we can trust and it is in him that we must deliver our labors, knowing that the Lord collects all our sufferings, fears and weaknesses to heal them. Our humanity is hurt... in the trust of others, towards the man of today, in the truth that is relativized, in the faith that seems reduced to personal interpretations and devotions. Relativism, individualism, are topics that Pope Ratzinger had also repeatedly 'prophesied' (cf. Benedict XVI, Light of the World. The Pope, the Church and the signs of the times. A conversation with Peter Seewald, Vatican City, Libr. Ed. Vaticana, 2010).
In short, no expert is needed to understand that we are in a silent suffering that cries out before God, especially the suffering of the just. Cardinal Pizzaballa, in one of his speeches wrote: "God’s answer to the question of why the suffering of the righteous is not an explanation, but a Presence. It is Christ on the Cross". ('Letter to the whole Diocese', 24 October 2023, by Card. Pierbattista Pizzaballa, Patriarch of the Latins in Jerusalem). Let us return to this Presence of the Lord, let us invoke his Name! It seems to us that HERE at Gethsemane the Presence of the Lord in the struggle, in the darkness, and in the will to do the Father’s will are the guiding lights for our prayer. He is our Light, He is our way, He is our 'food'! We are 'hungry' for justice, trust, truth, among ourselves and in Him, even when we cannot understand everything!
May Mary Most Holy intercede for us with her Son so that the King of the universe and King of our souls may extend his powerful hand to appease evil and grant us divine Peace, his Peace.
Hora Sancta
We are the sons of St. Francis, and we are THE custodians, according to the will of God, of one of the places that Jesus loved the most: the garden called GETHSEMANE. This is a unique place in the world. It is the place where the Lord manifested his Yes forever by being ready to enter where nobody else had ever entered, where he plunged into darkness, in the final battle against death, in which humanity has always ended up being a loser.
