In the last newsletters we have tried to contemplate the mystery that God accomplishes in the Garden. We have
seen how this place is not just a geographical place, identifiable with Gethsemane, oil press… but it is a
theological place, in which the Lord reveals himself, speaks to us and makes us share his redemptive action! (Jn
18:4-9:12; Mt 26:47-50; Jn 20:15).
The passionate question of God the Father who seeks us: "Where are you?" (Gen 3:9) we could consider it the
evident observation by God that man alone cannot do anything, cannot remain faithful to his commandment, and
that man easily lets himself be fascinated by false loves. We find this dynamic in the whole history of salvation!
This has happened and so it still happens today!
It is important for us to contemplate how God has foreseen all this and has come to meet us with his Wisdom:
the Son of God HERE, in this garden, shows himself in need of us, and invites us to stand beside him while he is
about to redeem the world: "Sit here, while I go there to pray" (Mt 26:36)! In his true humanity God shows
himself 'needy' of us, because he knows and knows well our need of Him: "you cannot do anything alone" (Jn
15:5).
The Lord Jesus will always be the one to intuit our need and under the Cross he gives us the most powerful and
pure 'company' that humanity can have: the motherhood of Mary Most Holy (cf Jn 19,26-27). We have just
entered Ordinary Time, we have just celebrated the memory of Mary, Mother of the Church. Let us invoke her
intercession so that we too can live the will of God as she tells us with her humble and powerful witness: "I have
done what he has told me" (cf. Jn 2:5). Let us not tire of asking for the gift of Peace as the Lord gives it!

We are the sons of St. Francis, and we are THE custodians, according to the will of God, of one of the places that Jesus loved the most: the garden called GETHSEMANE. This is a unique place in the world. It is the place where the Lord manifested his Yes forever by being ready to enter where nobody else had ever entered, where he plunged into darkness, in the final battle against death, in which humanity has always ended up being a loser.
